Attendance

Regular attendance is necessary to make progress.

The student agrees to arrive at each lesson punctually, well prepared, and with all necessary materials including a folder or notebook for notes and assignments.  It is very important to be on time.  Please know that if you arrive late, lesson time cannot be made up.

Parents are welcome to observe lessons, however in my own experience I have observed that students “unlock” more frequently when the parent is not present.  My suggestion is that parents observe a lessons one to two times per month.

Practice

Your lesson time is only one element of your total music program.  It is suggested that you practice 30 minutes AT LEAST FIVE DAYS EACH WEEK excluding the lesson day, to instill muscle memory, develop new technical skills, and address challenges in the repertoire.  I will expect that weekly practice is viewed as important as regular homework from school -- all written assignments should be completed thoughtfully and neatly before each lesson.

Parents -- please remember that it is your job to help your child establish a set routine for practicing (before dinner or immediately after school as a way to unwind before doing homework).  You are responsible for encouraging good practice habits, providing praise and encouragement and a distraction-free practice zone.  Please make sure you take a look at your child’s notebook to review their weekly goals.

I reserve the right to dismiss any student who consistently does not practice, neglects to bring all books faithfully each week and/or is frequently absent.  Behavioral problems will be addressed.

Tuition

$80 one month of 30 minute lessons
$120 one month of 45 minute lessons
$160 one month of 60 minute lessons

There is a 10%  sibling discount OR if you enroll in both voice & piano lessons.

Tuition is prorated only for new students starting in the middle of the month.
Tuition is billed on the 25th of the preceding month. It is due at your first lesson of the month. Cash, checks, and PayPal payments are all accepted.  Payment received after the 10th will incur a $10 late fee.

Sheet music fees will be added to your invoices.  Music purchases usually occur in the fall.

Cancellations

Please give at least 24-hours notice if you must cancel a lesson. Make up lessons are given at the teacher's discretion, depending on the available time and the student's need. Last minute cancellations and no-shows will not be made up except in cases of emergency.

Termination of Lessons

In the event that you or your child decides to discontinue lessons, a two-week notice will be required.  All outstanding fees will be paid.

Recitals

Each year there will be two recitals.  The Christmas recital is informal and takes place within my home.  The spring recital will take place in a larger venue before the school year ends.

Performance and Festival Fees

I encourage all students to attend performances and may arrange group events for concerts or masterclasses.

As a member of professional organizations, I will encourage prepared students to participate in local and state sponsored events in voice or piano.  Students that are active in their band or choir will also be encouraged to participate in solo opportunities offered in school performances and state festivals.  For these events, there is usually a registration fee, competition-approved music literature purchases, and occasional travel in the Middle Tennessee area.
